121 HAMBURG ARTISTS ADOPT ONE OF THE 121 REPRESENTATIVES IN THE HAMBURG CITY COUNCIL AND REQUEST A DIALOGUE ABOUT THE PLANNED “MARITIME MUSEUM”
In February 2004, the Hamburg city council agreed to the erection of Peter Tamm’s International Maritime Museum. The city has made the historic “Quayside Warehouse B” available rent-free for the private “maritime” collection of Peter Tamm, the former chairman of the board of the Axel Springer media concern and agreed to pay 30 million Euros to build the museum and ready the collection for exhibition. Although the collection is considered scientifically questionable and as a glorification of war, and the collector himself is known for his proximity to nationalistic German ideology, the appropriation was made without demanding a concept in advance; the senate and the city council waived any means of overseeing the museum’s contents. This occasioned Cornelia Sollfrank to form the “Artists inform politicians initiative” (Kip). Im Februar 2004 beschloss die Hamburger Bürgerschaft die Errichtung des »Internationalen Schifffahrts- und Meeresmuseums Peter Tamm«. Für die »maritime« Privatsammlung des ehemaligen Vorstandsvorsitzenden des Axel-Springer-Medienkonzerns, Peter Tamm, stellte die Stadt Hamburg den historischen Kaispeicher B mietfrei zur Verfügung und verpflichtete sich, 30 Millionen Euro für den Ausbau des Museums und die Aufbereitung der Sammlung bereit zu stellen. Obwohl die Sammlung als wissenschaftlich fragwürdig und kriegsverherrlichend gilt und der Sammler für seine Nähe zu deutsch-nationalem Gedankengut bekannt ist, erfolgte die Zuwendung ohne Abforderung eines Konzepts. Senat und Bürgerschaft verzichteten auf jede Kontrollmöglichkeit über die inhaltliche Gestaltung des Museums. Dies veranlasste Cornelia Sollfrank, die Initiative KünstlerInnen informieren Politiker (KiP) ins Leben zu rufen.
