Processing the Copy – Sharing Artistic Strategies
In a 2-day workshop German net.artist and cyberfeminist Cornelia Sollfrank introduces theoretical and practical approaches to the deconstruction and re-invention of authorship. Beginning in early modernism artists have constantly invented methods to challenge and undermine traditional models of authorship throughout the 20th century. In the center of all these methods is the concept of the collage which has constantly been modified (Dada, Surrealism, Situationism) and finally been taken to a new dimension through the emergence of the digital medium (Sampling).
With her net.art generators, computer programmes which half-automatically reassemble digital material from the Internet, Sollfrank explores not just the aesthetic dimensions of the Internet as a source for digital material, but also the conceptual and legal borders of artistic appropriation and dissemination in the 21st century.
Participants of the workshop will learn how they can easily follow in the footsteps of the most famous artists – while entering the legal grey area…
